      Copywriter Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ad Results Media (Houston, TX) in Dec 2019

      Interview

I'd give careful attention to all the reviews here before applying for a job with Ad Results Media. I wish I had. I initially applied via Linkedin in response to a job post. I was later contacted by email to set up a phone interview. The first phone interview call lasted 30 minutes and left me feeling wildly excited about the opportunity. The questions were thoughtful and the information offered was insightful. My excitement about this company grew. A few days later, I had a second phone interview with another individual. This person was also extremely friendly, well-informed, and asked great questions. I couldn’t wait for the next steps as my experience and goals were in alignment. I was thrilled to be invited to an in-person team interview the following week. I was given a schedule when I arrived, and I met with the two people I’d previously spoken with over the phone, as well as seven others from various teams. Everyone was welcoming and engaged. Again, thoughtful questions and great enthusiasm. I liked everyone. Our conversations flowed comfortably. The day’s interviews were slotted for 3 hours and we spoke for nearly 4 hours. It felt great! As things wrapped up, I spoke with one of my initial contacts again. We discussed next steps. I looked forward to an email to set up a phone interview with the CMO. The next morning I followed up with an email thanking everyone I met with for their time and expressing my excitement. I received an email invitation to book a phone interview time with the CMO. I selected a time, and the interview was booked for 5 or 6 days after the team interview. I spent the rest of the week and weekend preparing - absolutely pumped and eager to discuss my experience and goals with the CMO. I researched the company and the industry. I listened to the company’s podcast a second time. I studied their ads. I had stacks of notes in front of me and questions I couldn’t wait to ask. All the boxes, checked. Double-checked. Twenty minutes before my scheduled phone interview with the CMO, I received a call from Ad Results. I answered excitedly thinking maybe the interview needed to be rescheduled or perhaps the CMO was running late. Instead I learned the interview was cancelled. This person I’d previously met with said the company was “reconsidering the role”. I was shocked. They added only that they were “moving in a different direction.” Followed by, “Have a nice day.” It definitely wasn’t a nice day. I reached out to the CMO via email, as well as the first two individuals I’d interviewed with to ask for feedback or explanation. I received no response from anyone. The interview with the CMO was cancelled 20 minutes before our scheduled interview time. I can’t wrap my mind around that. So what started as a promising experience ended up being the most confusing and disappointing interview process of my career. It was hurtful. I’d advise reading all the reviews on this site about the company before applying.
