Developer and White Box Testing Interview

      10 Dec 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Adobe (Bengaluru) in Oct 2010

      Interview

Adobe was(rather still is) one of my dream company. I had applied through a online portal. Unexpetedly i got mail next day morning. Interveiew was 2 days after getting the mail. I was not fully prepared then( funny thing is.. then I used to work in mainframe, but java is my passion or subject of interest :) ). 1st round was : written test ( analytical abilty, quants ) : very easy( except 2/3 qts ) 2nd round : Java Technical apptitude ( multiple choices + some silly descriptive semester type qts ) 3rd : 1:1 most.. the most probably was a SE like me.. asking lots of qts like ( some from collections, email validations, string reverse logic etc etc ) : easy 4th round: 1:1 .. i thik he was ml/ta. Things were getting difficult. He was asking hell lots of qts( fibonacci recursive, iterators, threads , 2/3 well known puzzles, new things in java 1.6 syntax etc etc) : it was at least 1.5 hr 5 round : Ohh man.. it was a bit difficult. that guy was an ML(5 yrs exp). Asked several technical qts, program, puzzles. I had managed to ans all somehow :P, but atlast he asked me to write 10 test cases for a condition like to test if the 'dir' command ( customized) is working or not. it was silly. I was struggling to mention 10 cases for this thing.. but somehow managed it( some points which i had mentioned were really funny :P.. but what can i do... the qts itself was a piece of joke ..dont knw y didnt ask me to wrte 20 cases for that ..newaz).. i had cleard that too.. then I had to fill up one form mentioning all the details( same things which i had already mentioned in my cv). then the showstopper round 6th round : with hiring manager.. some blah blah qts like why u r changing u r tech domain and things.. then he had asked me to write a program .. which takes 3 lengths as input of a triangle, and checks all the possibilty to form different kinda triangale.. (all validations ).. easy one I was then almost in cloud7 :D.. but :( the last qts was a puzzle.. [ A man was going from city A to B with his camel and 3000 bananas. The distance btwn A and B = 1000 ml. that stupid camel eats 1 banana/ml. What is the highest no of banans , the man can trasport from A to B. cond: that man cant carry any banana with him. Only that camel can.] I had spend atleast 20 mins. He had given me hints too... but the truth is i couldnt solv that. He was also upset atlast. that was the only thing which i couldnt ans.. :( still feel depressed .. but :) life goes on yaar.. ha ha ( forgot to mention.. 5th and 6 th round was 3/4 days after the first day ). [ Ignore all typo errors :P.. after writing the last few lines.. dont hv mood to recheck again ] Hope, these info will be useful for someone of you. All the best guys.. Thanks M.... .

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Adobe (Noida) in Feb 2014

      Interview

I applied through online job portal and then received an email for the further process. The process started on Saturday with two written papers. First paper was technical. It contained subjective as well objective questions. Subjectives were very common and easy and objectives were mainly of type if program will compile or give error at specific line or output. Second was quant and aptitude. Quant was easy but apti was difficult and time was also very less.It contained questions like seating arrangments according to various rules and then 4 to 5 question based on it.These were CAT level questions. Both were 45 mins each. Please be carefull as in each paper there are two sections and there is sectional cutoff so u need to clear all the four sections' cutoff. After that those who cleared written were taken upstiars for further interview. 4 technical rounds were supposed to happen.Out of 18 around 11 cleared written. My 2 interviews happened that day and by that time it was 6 in the evening so they told us that further 2 technical and one HR would be taken n a weekday and we all were given a slot in which we had to come again for further rounds. On Saturday there were now 4 to 5 people who had cleared 2 tech rounds. Then i went there again on Wednesday as it was scheduled for me for further rounds. Had 2 technicals and 1 HR that day but result was to be announced on Friday. Mainly in the interviews, they ask about puzzles to check your analytical skills and will give you random things to provide test cases on them Puzzles were like you have 3 litres jug and 5 litres jug, how will u mease 4 ltrs. 25 horse and one rac course can accomodate 5 horses puzzle transpose matrix program you have 50 trucks and each has 50 ltrs capacity. how will you manage to any of the one truck to travel maximum distance Give test cases of a pen, coffee vending machine, makemytrip ticket booking testcases which adobe products have you used dificult situation you handled in project why adobe print vowels in a string compare 2 strings and print the common letters only once difference between windows xp and windows 7 architecture algorithm for dispensing cash in ATM machine what are registry files in system what happens when you install a software what will happen if your app's server crashes do not worry if you are nit able to reach the answer because these people only wnat to check the approach you are using to solve a problem. Each technical interview will last for an hour 1.5 hrs test + 4 hrs of intrvw and then arnd 10 minutes of discussion with HR This is the total process for them in general cases and is really hectic. On Friday i got an email that i am selected :) Thanks to God :)
