RESULTS:
• The technical nurse supports the delivery of patient care in accordance with standards of care that emphasize basic hygiene, comfort, and activities of daily living under the direction of the RN to promote the achievement of identified patient outcomes. . Reports changes in condition, potential problems, or concerns involving the patient or family to the nurse in a timely manner (i.e., vital signs, check-in / check-out).
• Helps maintain the integrity of the patient's skin by:
o Rotate and reposition the patient according to policy.
o Notify the nurse if skin breakage is observed.
• Performs accucheks and hemocults according to hospital procedures and documentation.
• Accurately and timely documents all patient care procedures and tasks.
• Remove peripheral IV catheters, dispose of them in accordance with the hospital's biohazard waste policy, observe the site, and notify the nurse of the condition. Documents in electronic medical record (EMR).
• Empty Foley, JP and hemovacs bags. Document care and entry / exit in the (EMR).
• Collection of samples as assigned by RN and following hospital policy for patient identification.
• Take vital signs, weigh accurately, and accurately measure in / out and documents.
• Transports patients with the necessary equipment to destinations within the scheduled times, observing the correct techniques.
• Helps position, lift, and walk patients, using proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
• Respond to call lights in a timely manner.
• Distribute supplies of linens.
• Supports the nutritional needs of the patient by:
o Help with meal preparation.
o Feed patients within identified restrictions.
o Document the percentage of food intake, including supplements.
o Notify and document the communication to the nurse if the patient does not have the p.o. adequate. intake for meals or snacks, or if the patient does not follow fluid restrictions in a timely manner.
• Perform proper hand washing techniques before, during, and after patient care at all times.

o Ensures restrictions are properly applied in accordance with FHT policy / procedure.
o Report any changes in the patient's behavior to the nurse.
• Demonstrates responsibility for patient safety related to falls.
• Participate in frequent technical checks to decrease the patient's need to use the call light system and increase patient safety.
• Place bed alarms on patients at risk of falls.
• Recognizes that all patients are at risk for falls in the hospital setting:
o Responds immediately to alarms from the patient's bed.
o Respond to ringing bells in a timely manner.
o Is proactive in meeting all patient needs.
• Adheres to specifications on isolation marking for patients. Acts as a preceptor for new unit staff members as assigned. Ensures safe and effective handover communications between caregivers.
