Before speaking to anyone, you are given a very time consuming task. Tasks are fine as part of an interview process but should not be given as the first step, especially extensive ones. It feels very disrespectful of candidates time and is a red flag

They then might respond with a generic "thanks but no thanks" email without further feedback the day after it is submitted.
It would show prospective employees more respect if you took 10 minutes of time in exchange for 3 hours.
