Went through the full interview process and received a verbal offer and asked to contact my professional references. Didn't hear anything for a week after so I reached out and then was told the position didn't get approved for budgetary reasons.
While I understand this happens, especially in startup companies, I would have appreciated better communication especially in the earlier stages and before I came onsite for a full day, that the position was not guaranteed. Unprofessional and a waste of time to offer a position that had not been approved yet.
