      IT Service Manager Interview

      13 Jun 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Apax (London, England) in Jun 2025

      Interview

1st stage went great, interviewer was nice, knowledgeable and empathic with conversation flowing nicely. 2nd stage interview was supposed to be a long 2 to 3 hours process. 2nd part of the interview was led by the CEO and wow that person is not qualified to interview people I'm surprised they can deal with people in general given the nature of this organisation. Asked inappropriate questions about personal life at some point (whether I have a family, married with kids to prove a point about having time in life for training and personal development), some questions felt like a trap, like asking for professional and personal passions and then sabotage the answer by saying they didn't want to hear about personal details. CEO comes across as a lunatic in all honesty the phrase "If ChatGPT was a person I would marry it tomorrow" was said during the interview with a serious dead-eye look. CEO was adamant to convince me that JIRA isn't a ticketing system and googled it during the interview to confront me with this. I explained JIRA is not just a ticketing system but that it is ALSO a ticketing system when configured that way. He kept forcing his opinion against the fact so we had to agree to disagree. When I asked how did he think I would match the role his response was that he wasn't sure, which is completely fair, but then went out of his way to be rude and say that I should quit my hobbies and just dedicate myself to fully immerse in IT and dedicate every minute of my life to it, this is the point where he said he lives and breathes technology and the pearl of wisdom about ChatGPT was said. He tried to mask his words as honesty but really that's not honesty it's rude and out of place when you're speaking with someone you don't know. Left an utterly bad impression, I would not want to work in a place led by such an obnoxious and self centred person. He tried to end on a relaxed, positive note, but harm was done already and to be honest my face probably didn't hide it either at this point. I stayed calm and didn't reply at the same low level as deserved, I just waited for it to stop eventually. The other bloke didn't even blink during the rest of the interview, which shows it was clearly uncomfortable in the room. Mr, I want to marry ChatGPT then ended the interview and told me I could go and would be in touch, skipping the phase I should have with a HR person next, clearly showing that decisions are made by him solely, not by the interview process they bragged about as the best in the market, All came across like a small org led by a little man with a Steve Jobs complex. Thanks but no - As soon as I got home I called my recruitment agent to please remove my application.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some normal questions about CV. career, tools and applications, etc. CEO questions and points made were out of place, trying to show off knowledge of specific tools they use in-house like they are world class and well known, trying to make me as a candidate feel stupid for not knowing those. Rude remarks and questions about personal life, Rude attitude in general trying to go for gotcha moments rather than trying to know me properly.
