I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Apollo Global Management (New York, NY) in Jun 2019
Interview
I was submitted for this position by a recruiter at one of the larger firms.
The process consisted of an initial phone screen with a compliance officer on the team, lasting for about 10-15 mins after which they scheduled the first round of in person.
The recruiter came back with the time and date of the interview and let me know that I would be interviewed by 4 different people. As I would need adequate time to prepare and travel, I took the day off work to accommodate the interview.
I arrived at their Salesforce building location about 20 minutes early and waited for the appropriate parties to be contacted. As the receptionist was on the phone I could quickly tell that something was wrong by her responses to the confusion of the person on the other line. I was then told that a mistake was made and that my interview was the next day.
I left irked and just amazed to say the least and contacted the recruiter right away. Turns out- Apollo gave the recruiter the incorrect date for my interview.
I received an apologetic call 30 mins later from the HR person who made the error.
Regardless, I showed up for the interview the next day and saw a compliance officer, 2 associates (separately) and HR. They should probably have the 2 associates interview candidate together since they are at the same level and 100% of the information is repetitive.
The conversations went well, everyone was friendly and wanted to get to know your interests outside of work in addition to your professional accomplishments and capabilities. I was able to connect with each individual, they were lovely two of them in particular, seemed very knowledge and would be a pleasure to work with. I enjoyed meeting them. After speaking with HR I was told that I could hear about the next steps from the recruiter (consisted of meeting the CCO and another compliance officer). This all transpired in a little over 2 hours.
The following week, the recruiter let me know that the feedback was very positive and the group liked me a lot but they were in the early stages of the search and I'd hear about next steps. About 3 weeks after the interview, I was told that they went with someone else who has less experience because they thought I would be bored in the role – and that was that.
The interview was a few rounds. The experience was nice but the wait time was long between interviews. The question is most about experiences and behavioral. It was all online interview.

Interview
1 Phone screen, 1 2-hour interview, 1 executive level interview. Everyone was very friendly and just wants to know how you as a person will fit into the team. If you get to the interview stage, then they believe that you have the credentials already - they will not waste their time otherwise.
