      Director Interview

      24 Feb 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Richardson, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AppFolio (Richardson, TX) in Jan 2015

      Interview

I was contacted by the internal recruiter based in their Richardson, TX office and spoke for around 20 minutes regarding my background, skills, comp ratio, etc. At the end of the call I was invited to come into their office the following week and interview with the hiring VP. My conversation with the hiring manager went well and I was informed they would contact me the following week with next steps. Next week came and went with no contact. I emailed and never received a response where I had requested feedback. Judging by the office demographic, if you are over 30 years old, don't bother to apply. Overall environment is small and reminded me of my freshman college days.

      Director Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at AppFolio in Mar 2022

      Interview

I had a 30 minute phone call with the recruiter and then a 60 minute interview with the hiring manager (Senior Director). The initial phone screening consisted very deeply of asking specifically why I left previous roles. There was not much interest in my actual job responsibilities. I was told point blankly that I was to give short answers and to not go in to detail. Next, I spoke to the Senior Manager. It was a 60 minute chronological interview, which was explained to me at the start. We would be going through my job history one by one starting with the oldest job on the resume. The same 6 questions were to be asked about each position. I was told I would be cut off if I spoke for too long on any particular question in order to make it through all the roles. I felt that was quite difficult because I was asked what my greatest accomplishment was at each position. Not something to do shortly. I was also asked why I thought something was an accomplishment. It was very off-putting. In addition, I was asked for a first and last name of every manager I had at each role. I felt uncomfortable providing that information. Finally, when it was time to ask questions, I asked what I could learn about the role that wasn't in the job description. The Senior Director said there was nothing additional they could provide. Furthermore, I asked what the team was really good at. The Senior Director said, I don't really know. It's easier to focus on the negatives. oh wait, people like each other here. A team member just went out of the country and is posting photos on slack. People really like that. Not to my surprise, a week later I received a decline to move forward email. Not for those who believe is good cultures, strong relationships with their managers, and work life balance.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The same questions were asked for each position you have held: What was your greatest accomplishment in the role? Why do you feel it is your greatest accomplishment? What was your manager's first and last name? How would they rate you on a scale from 1 - 10? What would make it a 10? If you managed people, what would they rate you on a scale of 1 - 10? What would you rate your team on a scale of 1 - 10? Why would you leave?
