Quasi job fair setup where you're given a time slot to meet with a panel of two principals to go over a set of pre-determined questions. It's a little jarring because it wasn't clear who I should look at initially. And I'm used to a bit more back-and-forth when answering a question, but it seemed much more one-way. Also, the two principals were from very different kind of schools (title I vs affluent), so how I'd respond would be quite different given the needs of the students / community. Overall, I would have preferred being interviewed for a specific school as I could have tailored my responses rather than give generic, "meh" answers. I also felt rushed as it was a time slot based interview, when I should have slowed down a bit. They transcribed my responses into a computer system that'll be linked to my overall job application. Speaking of, the application is not user friendly in terms of coming back to later compared to FCPS. I did appreciate the interviewers did have my resume printed out ahead of time. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this job pool interview style (basically a screener), if instead you could interview for a specific school. It's still early in the process, so I don't know whether I'll get an offer. But the lack of warmth compared to the FCPS job fair, makes me doubt whether I'd accept an APS offer.

Question 1
How do you work with marginalized communities?
Tell us about how you involve parents in the classroom?
How do you teach reading comprehension?
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Arlington Public Schools (Arlington Hills, VA) in Sept 2022
Interview
It's a who knows you, not a skills! It's incredible unprofessional and they need you more than you need them. It usually has a principal or vice and maybe someone from the department. They usually are more invested than admin
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Arlington Public Schools (Arlington, VA) in May 2024
Interview
You apply, they send you a calendar invite (most likely a remote interview), and you either hear back within 14 days or you do not. For one job, I did not hear back, for the other I heard back with a yes within 3 days.
