I interviewed at Astranis (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

The interviewer arrived approximately 20 minutes late, which limited the time available for introductions. As a result, he asked me to immediately discuss the most impressive project I have worked on, and I provided an overview of that project. He asked several follow-up questions, which felt more like questions driven by curiosity rather than standard interview questions. I did not mind this, as I enjoy discussing my work and sharing my experiences. This portion of the interview lasted about 10 minutes or less. Due to the late start, we moved directly into the technical portion of the interview. He asked whether I had access to a whiteboard or a way to write, as he wanted to observe my problem-solving process. The technical question focused on how to calculate the temperature of a solar panel on a satellite. I began explaining my thought process; however, I found it challenging to fully articulate my approach due to frequent interruptions and questions throughout my explanation. I had expected to present my full reasoning before receiving feedback, although it is possible this was simply his interviewing style. While the interaction felt somewhat awkward at times, I answered all questions correctly. Ultimately, I was not selected for the internship. Although the outcome was disappointing, I believe I was well prepared, and I am grateful for the experience and the opportunity to practice technical interviews.

      Interview

Interview process was simple. Talked to recruiter, then thermal lead, then Director. Recruiter was just a culture check. Thermal lead was the main person asking technical questions. The director asked more "why are you an engineer" but asked other technical questions. The director made me feel more comfortable in the interview process, which I always appreciate.

Q: If a ball is orbiting around Earth, what would be the temperature of the ball?

      Interview

I didn't get past the first round interview, but overall it was a positive experience. I spoke about some of my project experience, before being asked a number of technical questions which were very fair. The interviewer was very friendly and did their best to communicate clearly.
