      Applications Developer Interview

      13 May 2010
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Avanade (Seattle, WA) in May 2010

      Interview

There was a four-part interview process. First was a phone call by the recruiter (who was responding to my application on Dice). 1. Phone screen. The recruiter sent a "phone screen" document by e-mail, which I filled out and sent back. We then scheduled a phone interview, and went over the document and my answers together. The document asked largely non-technical questions about why I was looking for new roles, etc. 2. Technical phone interview #1 - this was an in-depth technical interview, and the hardest one (at least for me). The interviewer asked a lot of questions, many of which sounded like they could have come from certification exams. The questions were divided into sets; obviously finding technical strong and weak points. Very fair, I think, and very thorough. 3. Technical phone interview #2 - The "practical" phone interview, while logged in a shared Office Meeting workspace. A "white-board" style test, just checking to see if I had some of the skills listed on the resume. The reviewer was very fair, and asked reasonably involved question. 4. In-person, 1-on-1 interview. with the head of the ATS (Avanade Technical Services) at the site. More of a standard job interview, asking fairly detailed question about my job experience and attitudes. All in all, a fairly involved process - but done very quickly. All four interview done, and an offer made, within the space of two weeks.

      Question 1

Not any one question, but the level of detail on some technical questions surprised me. For example, detailed questions on SQL Server locks and transaction isolation levels.
