I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Avantax in May 2008
Interview
They took 4 rounds of interviews. The first round was about past experience and some design stuff. Second round was technical and problem solving. Questions were in the range of average to difficult. Third round was about solving some research problem. After that there was another interview with the management, typical HR. The same day they made an offer. Offer was very good. So accepted it.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Avantax (Bellevue, WA) in Oct 2014
Interview
Started out with a behavioral interview with the HR, really basic questions like tell me about yourself. Followed up with a technical phone screening, which mainly consisted of objected oriented programming concepts such as:
-Value Type vs Reference Type
-Interface vs Abstract Class
-Polymorphism
-Class vs Object
-Explain Try-catch-finally
After that I was followed up with an onsite interview which was a conversation style interview. There were three Interviews which consisted of various programming concepts and programming questions.
First interview:
-Abstract vs Interface, and when you would use one over the other
-Inheritance
-Reference vs Value vs Pointer
-Write method definitions of a binary tree, then implement the find function
Second Interview
-How would you test an Elevator, was going off what was listed in my resume
-Explain a challenging project...something of that sort don't quite remember the exact wording
-Reverse a linked list
-Polymorphism programming question
Third Interview
-What kind of job are you looking for?
-Two parachutist are dropped in a dense forest. A railroad is in the middle of the forest. What instructions would you give to the parachutists so that they may meet each other?
-Don't quite remember what else was asked
So the interview went well as also stated by the HR person, but the only thing they were waiting on was the Director of the team to make the final decision and I would wait the beginning of the following week. The following week comes, I don't hear anything so I contact the HR person and they tell me the Director of the team is now assessing the needs for an intern and I would hear something at the end of the following week. This is completely outrageous on their part, so the job posting on their website doesn't mean squat, and also what purpose what the interview for if the Director of the team is assessing the needs for an intern, why put a job posting if you don't need it in the first place, and to this day the Software Engineer Intern job posting is still there on their careers page.
