Around a month after applying online, I was called (without warning) for a phone interview where we went over my salary expectations and the qualities I thought I could bring to the business. Shortly after this I was invited for my first interview. Both interviewers were friendly and created a relaxed atmosphere. I was asked about my degree, why I wanted to work in tax and then a few competency questions. They told me they would let me know if I was to be invited for a second interview.
After over a month of no contact, I received an email inviting me for a second interview. This interview turned out to be exactly the same as the first interview except with more quizzing about my choice of degree and why I want to work in tax, as well as the same competency questions. This interview was much more formal (despite being the same script) and overall a less welcoming atmosphere. I was told I would be notified if my application was successful or not but I am yet to hear back.
I was also questioned about my salary expectations at every stage of the application process (online, phone and both interviews). In my original application I stated that I would expect around £18k and this figure was brought up again and again in both interviews despite me stating on the phone that I'd be happy to accept the actual salary of £15.6k.
I sent my online application off in April and was only got a second interview in July, so if nothing else I'd say their entire recruitment process is very disorganised, which is the impression I got throughout this process. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but I wouldn't consider applying for BDO again.
