I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BTI Brand Innovations (Mississauga, ON) in Mar 2022
Interview
I applied online. They reached out for my salary expectations and to schedule an interview. I told them my salary expectations and they proceeded to schedule an interview with me.
I did one interview through zoom and one a follow up in person interview. Although based on my experience in the zoom interview I shouldn't have gone for the in person.
During the zoom interview they asked basic interview questions but when my salary expectations came up again I reiterated what I already stated in the email prior to booking the interview. The owner of the company proceeded to tell me that he would never in his life pay what I am asking for and told me I'd only be worth paying 40k. I was extremely offended considering if my asks were outside of their range they could have politely informed me that the position is entry level so they only have an entry level budget. Instead he proceeded to pick apart my portfolio and experience to explain to me why I don't deserve the salary I was asking for. Despite the rudeness I considered the fact that they may not have the budget and asked about Work from Home options. I was told no the position is in person 100%. Transportation and cost of living continuously are going up and they weren't the slightest bit considerate of these things.
When they followed up after the second interview wanting to move forward I politely declined. Not sure how telling me I'm not worth the spend is an attractive way to entice a prospect to work for your company. In the end I found a job else where paying more than I was asking for as I continue to ask for higher pay and with a hybrid work schedule. I think this organization is probably a great place to gain experience as a beginner in the industry to get some experience and move on else where.
