      Communications Director Interview

      20 Feb 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Babson Diagnostics

      Interview

I initially had a very positive conversation with the HR rep who vetted my application. We had a very transparent conversation about salary expectations. She shared a range with me for the role, I shared my explicit number within that range and she assured me it would be no problem. Then - after: 1 HR screening 1 interview with the hiring manager 4 onsite interviews that required a 1 hour drive each way 1 prep/interview with the hiring manager 1 45-minute panel presentation to 11 members of the organization (again, requiring a 1 hour drive each way) After that, I was given an offer below my current salary. When I expressed my concern that this offer was not only taking a pay cut from my current job, but also far off from the conversation I had with the HR person, the Babson team made the decision to remove the offer entirely and re-structure the job description to look for a candidate with less experience and less money. The hiring manager expressed regret that she couldn't hire me and that she had "really wanted to make it work." Suffice it to say, disappointment is an understatement, especially after such strong alignment from the initial vetting process and positive reviews from the interviewing team. Clearly the HR and leadership team at Babson isn't aligned, causing wasted time on both sides.
