      Senior Technical Writer Interview

      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Blackbaud

      Interview

First a phone interview and online recorded video interview (not live), second a live video conference interview with the manager (I was coming from out of state.), third a live team video conference interview with the other writers and the corporate office. The process was EXTREMELY communicative and I felt well-guided the entire time. Props to the recruiting team!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Just the basics: why do you think you're a good fit for this role? Give an example of a good manager and a bad manager. Tell me more about your experience with authoring software.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Blackbaud (Charleston, SC) in Sept 2024

      Interview

I interviewed with Blackbaud for a technical writer position. The process consisted of a chat with the recruiter; an interview with the manager; and then an interview with another writer and a director. The process took about a month and a half, where I then received a call that the position was placed on hold for the time being. As a result, I received no offer due to the cancelling of the position.

      Senior Technical Writer Interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Blackbaud

      Interview

They use a third party tool called HireVue to conduct the interview. You don't actually talk to a human and cannot engage in conversation. You're basically just talking to yourself into a computer, making a timed recording, answering questions that they have selected to ask you. It's a one-way communication with no back-and-forth. I'm used to actual conversations with real people so it just felt strange. I wasn't surprised that there was no offer as I definitely don't do well in such a situation. If you like to engage with people, this interview process is probably not for you. In the future, I definitely know to reject interview offers from companies that use this method. Live and learn.

      Question 1

What you don't like about your current role? What kinds of documentation have you produced?
