I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Books-A-Million in May 2008
Interview
This was a one on One interview with a GM of the company. I then took a personality/IQ test in a room with several others. It was an extremely organized interviewing process, but that was because they were opening a new store and brought in people to do a mass hiring.

Application
I interviewed at Books-A-Million (Mobile, AL)
Interview
I showed up, gave them my name, and seemingly no one even knew I had an interview. I sat for around 30 minutes waiting on someone to finally show up.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
If you were confronted by an angry customer, how would you deal with that?
It was a quick phone call and was very easy, casual conversation. Questions focused on background and interest in working at the store and knowledge of stock management. I also went in person to discuss further.
Know about books. Don't wear jeans. Store has closed so you probably won't get hired here now. Expect to be asked about sales skills and customer service skills and literacy skills.
