      Software Engineer Interview

      10 Dec 2014
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Boost Media (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2014

      Interview

The interview process was long. I would say the difficulty was medium, based on previous interviews for similar positions. I think a lot of the difficulty was due to the length of the process. Split into parts with different members of different teams. Starting with introduction to people and the company, then questions aimed towards my previous experience, getting into some more technical questions, and then finally with a live coding/puzzle, which were not too difficult, but gradually got more difficult with each interview. Obviously important to explain your thinking at this stage and not just start furiously coding. There was also more informal chats with team leads and the CTO. Despite the length, I was pleased with the interviews overall and I got a good feel about the company and had the chance to ask any questions I wanted. However, due to the format, some information was repeated. The interviewers seemed enthusiastic about the company, and gave me the impression that it is a great place to work (which I can confirm it is).

      Interview

A long death march of marginally talented individuals interested only in protecting their own jobs. Seriously, do not bother with these losers. They are going to fold, and you will end up folding with them. Don't do it. Actually, I doubt they're hiring anyone as they have no money.

      Software Engineer Interview

      11 Dec 2014
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Boost Media (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

I was approached by Boost for a software engineering position. The process was fairly straightforward: I was contacted by a recruiter, indicated my interest, and was contacted for a phone screen by an engineering manager. I was then invited to an onsite interview a few days later, which was about 4-5 hours long. Being a startup, the setting was relaxed, but serious, which was understandable - they obviously cared about a culture fit, but needed smart people that get stuff done (same as anywhere). I met with a large part of the team (engineers, product, QA), who came and talked with me in pairs, about 8 people altogether. I eventually spoke with the CTO towards the end of the evening. I was offered the position a couple of days later, which I accepted.
