Long story because it took a long time. I was contacted by a recruiter who had found my profile. Had a quick screening call and discussed the role being remote, a certain pay grade (lower than my normal but OK), the interview proces. The interview proces would be an interview with the hiring manager, 2 maybe 3 more technical team members and then closing with the VP.
Ok quite intense, but doable. We scheduled interview after interview and I spoke with the VP, but after the VP there were more and then again the VP asking me to do an assigment. Being so far in and so much time invested (9 interviews!) I mentioned this becoming tedious, but did it anyway. A week after delivering the assignment I should have received feedback (at the latest), but when it wasn't there I contacted them. It turned out nobody had even read my assignment..! They would come back with feedback after the approaching weekend. It became Wednesday, no feedback. I called, emailed, texted....no response. Another weekend came and went. I again called, nobody picked up. At the end of that day, finally an email with feedback, they had decided to change the role to onsite....
I have had many rejections before, but this took the cake. Not because I can't handle an honest rejection, but this is just not how you treat people. Everyone I spoke to was super nice and all, but you can't have people go through the wringer and then ghost for some time to end up with a rejection that is completely something that could have been avoided from day one. So I directly provided my own feedback on this and also leave this for any future person interviewing. I hope they get it together for your sake.
