      Junior Product Manager Interview

      3 Sept 2019
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Butternut Box (London, England) in Aug 2018

      Interview

There was three main parts to the process: phone screen interview with the hiring manager, home task, on-site interviews. The screening call was quick and on point - we talked about my previous experience, what I wanted to achieve at Butternut Box and I received a quick overview of the company and their expectations for Junior Product Manager. The home task needed a little bit of creativity, research skills and understanding of the industry. It was relatively easy to get into it and deliver the results for it with a few hours. The problem and the expected results were well articulated and easy to follow. When being on-site I had four interviews: 1. Head of Product (the hiring manager) - We went through the home task I have sent around previously, there was an additional product task I had to find a solution to and present the results for. It was a good exercise to show my understanding of product management and show my relevant skills. 2. Engineering Team Lead - This was a very relaxed chat, we went through some common development processes and discussed how successful product manager helps his/her team to succeed. 3. CEO (Co-founder) - Chat about the company, my previous experience and my love of dogs. There were also two brain teaser/calculation tasks which were fun and a good way to show the team how I think. 4. Head of People - More general chat around who I am, what I can bring to Butternut Box culture and what kind of work environments I have worked before. I enjoyed these chats and they gave me a lot of opportunities to ask questions, which helped me to make a decision that I wanted to work for Butternut Box.

      Junior Product Manager Interview

      20 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

      I interviewed at Butternut Box

      Interview

Even though we had a phone interview arranged, the Head of Product never called. I followed up and we rescheduled the interview; for a second time, the interviewer didn't call. Nor did he email to apologise or to explain, even after I followed up yet again. A few weeks later, another recruiter emailed me a generic response to say that after considering my application, they had decided not to advance it. Unprofessional. Disorganised. Time-wasting.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Didn't have time for questions. The interviewer didn't show up for the interview - twice.

      Junior Product Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Butternut Box in Aug 2018

      Interview

Applied online and received a response a few weeks later, inviting me to a telephone interview. Telephone interview was with the hiring manager and more of a friendly chat, with the opportunity to ask questions and explain my background. After the telephone interview I was given a remote task to complete, taking about an hour. I was offered an interview at their offices for the coming week. I then received an email on the Monday that my interview for the Management Accountant role had been cancelled as the role had been filled on Friday. Shortly after I received another email telling me that the Junior Product Manager role was no longer available either! Despite the length of the process, it seemed relatively smooth until this point - mainly disappointing that you are unable to get the chance to interview, when all has seemingly gone well to that point. Seems fruitless to book interviews in when it is clear you're not going to give all candidates a chance to interview, if the first one does well.
