      Senior Sales Engineer Interview

      Positive experience

      Interview

I applied on the site after talking to some contacts at the company. Process was long and comprehensive. Started with a call with recruiting and then hiring manager followed by the area VP. After there were several one on one with department leads and possible peers. Following all this there was a meeting with a corporate VP and then an offer. Over all the interviews were conversational and informative. Long process but well coordinated and constructive.

      Interview

As others have said, very long interview process: 8 interviews + sales pitch. Most interviews were friendly and coversational, one or two were intimidating and felt a bit like being grilled. AlI interviews except the sales pitch were 1:1. I sent an email follow-up after every one, but only one of the interviewers ever responded. I was later told that it's a good thing I did that, though, because that manager discards candidates who don't do that. Since joining the company, I understand why almost no one responded: email overload. I've never been at a company with so much neverending internal mass emailing (and this isn't my first remote job). My advice would be to pester your recruiter (in a nice way). Also, listen for questions or comments that ignite your passion and really jump off those. If there's a direct question, answer it, but use it as a jumping-off point to express your ideals.

      Senior Sales Engineer Interview

      3 Apr 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Calix (Austin, TX) in Feb 2018

      Interview

The interview process went fairly smoothly, though it took many weeks to complete. My manager was very upfront about the timing of the position, and kept me informed of the timing of all next steps. The interview process was scheduled and managed via a combination of HR and the hiring manager. I interviewed with my hiring manager, my direct sales team, several engineers for a technology check on my skills, then with the VP managing our group. Everyone was extremely nice and many of the interviews felt like a conversation rather than a grilling that many companies favor in interviewing today. There were pointed question to make sure my background and skills matched the needs of the role, then many questions on how I would fit into the unique needs of the job but it always felt like they respected me as a candidate. When I was down-selected to the final group, I flew to Austin to meet the team in person at an event to complete an in-person interview with my hiring manager, the VP, and my sales executive. Once I reached the later stage of the hiring process, I got a call from the CEO who then spent more than 30 minutes with me directly both interviewing me and encouraging me to ask tough questions for him. Once I was selected for the role, they did an in depth background check and reference check before the offer was finalized.
