      Human Resources Generalist Interview

      19 Dec 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical in Dec 2014

      Interview

I applied online after searching through a few job sites over a weekend. I got an email early that week asking if I had time for a call with the HRBP on Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving). We scheduled, I had the call, and I was told I would be hearing from them after they conversed the next week. A week goes by, and the following Wednesday I hear from them that they want to bring me in next week for an in person interview with the HRBP and Director of HR, which was scheduled for then the next Wednesday. I went in, had a good conversation with the HRBP and a good video conference with the Director of HR (based in London; I applied for a position in the US). Thursday I get a call from the recruiter saying they liked me and wanted me to video call with the VP of Operations Friday morning. I did so from the comfort of my home, and talked again with the recruiter that day saying they would try to get me an offer that day, if not Monday. At this point the recruiter knew I had another offer that I had to respond to by Tuesday. Monday comes, nothing for most of the day. Around 3pm or so I get an email from the recruiter apologizing for the silence and that they will get me something Tuesday morning. Sure enough, early Tuesday I get a call with the offer (the salary offered was at the maximum of the range I presented) and some other details of benefits and such, along with an email pertaining the same. After weighing my offers, I chose the other and replied to the email letting them know, didn't hear back after that. Throughout the interviews with the HRBP, Director of HR and the VP of Operations, I got asked a lot of questions regarding my experience handling various situations. For example, "Tell me a time you had to deal with ____", or "Give me an example of when ____ happened, how did you react/what would you do next time?" There were a few questions about my prior experience, but not a whole lot other than tying them into the example questions. All in all, good interview and a good HR/Operations department. I felt very comfortable throughout the entire process.

I applied online. I interviewed at Canonical (Berlin)

      Interview

I did not get to speak to an actual person, but I enjoyed answering the questions they sent over to write in essay form. It gave me time to reflect on my career and the choices made and reflect on what I want it to look like moving forward. It was some sort of therapy, honestly.

They send a list of questions ranging from what you scored in highschool and specifically maths and english.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Canonical

      Interview

Lengthy interview consisting of a written application, answering 20+ questions. I then had an initial phone screen and went on to have some additional virtual interviews with multiple team members. I did not choose to move forward in the process because I got the sense that this role would be extremely micro-managed.
