      Web Developer Interview

      18 Sept 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Canonical (London, England)

      Interview

TLDR: Don't apply or expect nothing out of it, even if you are thinking you are having nice results. Whole process took 4 months! Let's start with the basics. Structure wise, interview process you go through a written interview, generic psychometric challenge, introductory interview, challenge and then like 3 "technical" interviews where you are interviewed by an engineer and a last interview by either you hiring manager or someone higher up. Most people you meet there are super nice and friendly. Environment there seemed nice and everything is quite accessible difficulty wise. I have never gotten much technical questions, mostly were related to styling decisions and overall feedback over their Vanilla Framework Now looking back at the negative aspects (which are a lot). Feedback is non existent through phases, you only get generic email telling you to schedule a next appointment with a random member of canonical. Steps take way to long. As I said, it took 4 months total, 3 months for the whole process interview and 1 month to which they said they were preparing an offer, which surprise, it didn't, they were just waiting for other candidates to compare them. There is absolutely no transparency through the whole process, so you don't know what is happening and, on my last phase, it was a total lack of respect for the interviewees since they straight up lie about the state of your interview. Do not recommend.

      Interview

The recruitment process is excessively long and completely lacks human contact. Moving through numerous anonymous stages without a proper interview makes it impossible to evaluate the opportunity effectively. The company needs to introduce real interaction much earlier in their hiring pipeline.

      Question 1

A high volume of basic school and college-level academic questions during the initial stage.

      Interview

Written interview including high school performance. After that, I took an online assessment (coding) and a personality test. The recruiter sent me an email about arranging the first person-to-person interview. But after an hour, I received a rejection email.

      Interview

As we all know, the interview process can feel long from the moment you get that first email. I completed the text interview, the coding tests, and the problem-solving assessments 🤔. Interesting or not — you decide. The interviews with the team were pleasant; I guess it depends, but mine were 3/3 positive experiences. I didn’t get an offer, but I’m thinking of applying again in six months..

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

To be honest, I thought it would be more like an architectural interview where I’d be drawing app structures on a whiteboard. But instead, it was more along the lines of: Tell me about your projects, your achievements, your goals. What would you do in this situation? Why do you use this instead of that? What would you do differently now?
