I applied online, and was initially contacted by a recruiter about a week later. She and I had a brief chat on the phone, and she said that she wanted to schedule a phone call between me and the hiring manager. The hiring manager and I chatted a few days later, and she asked me to come in for an in-office interview.
I got there, and waited in their lobby, which was definitely designed to be a beautiful place for visitors. The recruiter came to show me to the interview room, which was nearby the lobby.
I interviewed with three people over the course of probably two hours. First, the hiring manager. Then two colleagues. They were all polite, asked good questions, and I had a rapport going with two out of three of them. At the end, the recruiter came back and asked me how it went. I told her, and she asked if I had everyone’s contact information, which implies to me that thank you notes are expected. She made a point to tell me that she’d let me know the next week, but I was the only person they were interviewing.
I wait until the end of the next week and email. I’m told to wait another week because they want to do their due diligence and interview another person or two. Meanwhile, I saw the position go back online.
I wait another week, email back, and got no response. That was six weeks ago, and I still haven’t gotten a response, or a “thanks but no thanks” email.
If I’m not a good fit, that’s fine, but let me know in a reasonable period of time. Two months is not reasonable.
