Senior Policy Associate, Child Welfare Interview

      21 Dec 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Children Now in Dec 2024

      Interview

I applied online on their website and I was then told a few weeks later that they wanted a phone screening with me. The phone screening went well, it was with HR, and then they moved me to the second and final round where I spent an hour with the Child Welfare Team, people who would have been my colleagues. Then a few weeks later, HR follows up with me and says that they would like to discuss my candidacy. I call them back and it ended up being another screener, which was a total surprise. They started asking me about employment gaps from literally four years ago, it felt really invasive. They then asked for my references, which I thought was a really good sign. I was told in that surprise screening that there would be no more interviews and that the team would let me know their decision by the end of the week/beginning of next week. I waited patiently. The end of the week goes by, The whole of next week goes by. I then follow up because they missed their own deadline. Two days later, I receive an automated email that they are not going to move forward with my application. It was incredibly rude that they did not provide feedback at all especially since I made it to the last round. Beware of this nonprofit! I got a really toxic vibe when I was interviewing with them. From what I understand, they said you have to be available at all times of the day, like no work life balance at all. They said if we text you on Saturday at 10pm you better answer and no overtime! Unacceptable. They also said there's no training and that you just figure it all out yourself. Really toxic and exploitative. Also this nonprofit's Child Welfare team is all white! Given that the majority of the children in foster care are children of color, the lack of diverse perspectives and lived experiences at Children Now is pretty unacceptable, especially when they are preaching about equity.
