Interview cnducted via Zoom call with Regional Sales Manager & Showroom Manager. Standard line of questioning for elevated retail selling environment - highlight experience, examples of excellent customer service, etc.

When I initially applied I accidentally sent a cover letter meant for a different job, but I still received an immediate response. That made me suspicious that the interviewer hadn’t bothered to read my cover letter or resume. I was correct. The interviewer asked me one question and then proceeded to talk at me about why I couldn’t be hired, instead of simply telling me that I wasn’t a good fit. She asked why I’m not in sales at my current job (they have a full sales team). She told me to consider asking my current job to put me in sales before I start applying at other places. I wouldn’t be applying at other places if I hadn’t tried this already. I told her she was being extremely condescending, at which point she told me she was just trying to ‘give me advice to advance my career’. I used my unpaid lunch break at my current job expecting to be interviewed- instead I got condescending and unsolicited advice. She said she was just trying to ‘do her job’. Last I checked, it wasn’t the hiring managers job to offer someone an interview and then spend that entire time giving them career advice. What’s the point?! Does she have so little to do in her current position she feels the need to play counselor? A simple rejection like a normal person would have sufficed. Unbelievably rude and I’m glad it didn’t work out.
