      Engineering Manager Interview

      28 Jun 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cloudbeds in May 2020

      Interview

The interview process was very clear and smooth, the HR person explained all very well and drove the process end to end perfectly, but there was one part very disappointing. The first round was with a Director, he was very engaging and interested to know about my experience, a great person with great interpersonal skills. The second round was with a Senior Manager and Manager, the Senior Manager was a very experienced CloudBeds lead, he also listened and engaged very well with me and asked many questions about my past. However, the disappointing part was with a Manager, who was a new joiner, first of all, he was all the time standing and 70% of the time looking at his screen and typing away the answer, I did not feel very comfortable and got the feeling he was not listening and neither taking interest about my past, his questions were mainly on how I would do X and Y. Interviews are very stressful for the interviewee, the role of the interviewer is to make you feel comfortable and take an interest in your experience and what could you provide to the company. I don't think typing when Interviewing is great to create a nice atmosphere, just listen, ask questions and type once the interview is done, or just take a few notes, otherwise, you will never manage to engage with an interviewee and get the most out of him/her resulting in losing the right person for your company. Lastly, since it is a distributed company, it was very hard to find suitable times, it was either very early or very late on my time zone which makes harder for an interviewee, they should free suitable time for interviews, who would be able to do an interview at 7 am or 11 pm?

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We understand that time schedules are a constant challenge. Considering that we are a remote team recruiting from all over the world we are determined to encourage flexibility from the hiring managers and recruiters to better accomodate the candidate. Regarding your interviewer taking notes, while we do encourage our hiring managers to take and share all notes, with a view to ensuring a fair evaluation of all candidates, it seems like this was not properly explained to you, I'm sorry that you felt uncomfortable. We have shared your feedback with the hiring team and hope that this was a one-off and that they will make candidates feel at ease in the future. Thank you again for taking the time.
