      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

      I interviewed at Collage.com

      Interview

Spoke with a recruiter for a 30 minute phone screen, then set up an hour call with a current product manager on the team. Got a canned rejection email after that.

      Interview

Collage does not have a clearly defined strategy or direction regarding the future of the company or how they specifically intended to compete in the busy market. I ask the same strategy question in every interview I didn't get any consistency across the answers. Leadership (EXECUTIVES) were described as overly hands-on, at times limiting the progress of teams and the product. I had positive experiences with each interviewer. Conversations were pleasant, easy-going and conversational based. I felt like I could easily work along side with them. In one of the interviews, I spoke verbally about the problem space that was presented in the take-home assignment. However, upon completion of the assignment, it was game over with little context as to why they will not pursue my candidacy. Collage offered to provide feedback when taking them up on the offer. They don't respond failing to follow through. I'm left feeling like I was used for free labor and intellectual thought after submitting a viable completed assignment. I'm glad it didn't continue further. If a company is going to treat candidates like this I can only imagine how they treat actual employees.

      Product Manager Interview

      15 Mar 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Collage.com (Seattle, WA) in Feb 2017

      Interview

I filled out a fairly detailed questionnaire to apply, along with submitting a resume and cover letter. About a week and a half later I received an email that they wanted to talk to me. I spoke with a member of the marketing team, which was a split between personality/hobbies/culture fit and questions about processes and my experience in product management. It lasted about 45 minutes. A few days later, I received an email from a member of the engineering management team requesting that I complete an assignment in order to progress to the next steps. They ask that you spend 2-3 hours on defining how you research and prioritize a new feature, and then write out the requirements including a mock-up. I completed this and returned it within about 24 hours of receiving it and was told I would hear back by the next day at the latest. A week later...I received a one line email thanking me for submitting the assignment and that the position had been filled. Total bait and switch to not even inform me that they had progressed so far with other candidates. Their interview pricess (as stated on the job posting) clearly outlined that after the take home assignment there would be FIVE more one hour interviews with various members of the company. Don't waste your time. I'm not entirely convinced they aren't just looking for people to complete the assignment to help do work they really need to hire qualified candidates to complete. And if they did in fact hire a qualified product manager, the lack of visibility into the interview process should indicate that lack of visibility within the company, which is obviously disconcerting with a completely remote culture.
