I applied and I assumed they liked my resume because I received an email from their recruiter within a week to respond to 10 questions including pay expectations based off the pay range they listed, why I applied to the company etc. I responded to the questions, including my pay expectation and that I was not flexible about my pay expectation. They went ahead and scheduled me for an interview a week later. I assumed that it meant that they were able to pay out what I was asking for. A week later they had me send over references, so again I thought they would pay what I asked for. 1 or 2 weeks later they respond that they are moving forward with another candidate. I saw that they re-posted the position so I reached out if I could be given more information about the decision. They said that I was a strong candidate but ultimately were moving forward with someone else. Fair. The recruiter called me the next day or days later and asked if I was still interested in the position, I said yes, and she told me they would pay $22/hr. I countered bc of my 10 years of experience. She asked me to resend my resume so that she could send if that was negotiable. She emailed me back and said they could not go higher than $22. This was upsetting b/c the average pay posted is $22 so it felt like they knew all along that they were only ever going to offer that. It also felt like they stretched out the process so that I would become desperate or concede to whatever pay they offered due to all the time and effort that I invested. I was upset because I asked for the top pay in the range and the recruiter said she had never seen anyone get paid that much. Which makes me feel like it was all just a waste of time. I cannot believe this is how they run business. They clearly do not value their employees or prospective employees and have dishonest practices.
