      Client Success Manager Interview

      14 Feb 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CompStak in Feb 2025

      Interview

I want to be clear that everyone that I met on the team was so lovely and I truly think this would be a great team to work with. However, I had a very disappointing experience with my final round interview with the CEO. Initially had a phone screen with the VP of people, then a 45 minute Zoom interview with the Director of CS which both went great. From there, I had a really good experience presenting in person to two senior CSMs and thought they seemed like great people. The last interview completely caught me off guard. The SVP of sales was on the call and he seemed great, was also very kind. But from the minute I hopped into the Zoom, the CEO could not muster a smile and it truly seemed like he wished to doing anything else. When I was speaking, it was very clear he was not paying attention and typing on his computer which did not feel amazing by any means. It seemed like a game of “gotcha” to him, trying to prove that I did not deserve the role in any capacity and he was waiting for me to prove his objections right. I kept attempting to connect with him in a way that also helped to fill in gaps of my knowledge with questions, knowing without question I am fully qualified for the role. Admittedly, I did not do my best because I was so thrown off from this behavior, but I do think it’s important to know this is the person you will be working for.

Hi! It's Michael Mandel, CompStak's CEO. I'm sorry if I came across as distracted. I was typing on my computer - but I can assure you that I was reviewing your resume and taking notes. Also, apologies if my questions came across as "gotchas." You were one of two finalists for one role, and so it was important to really dig in on your experience and qualifications. In any event, I was actually very impressed by you in the interview. You had clearly done your research, and you asked excellent questions! I actually remarked to my colleagues that I wished we could hire both candidates, as I came away thinking that you would be a great fit for our team. Ultimately, I prefer to do interviews like this in-person, but I ended up doing this one over Zoom, as I was on vacation and we didn't want to drag out the process. If we have an opportunity to meet again in the future, I think you'll find that I'm not such a bad guy :-).
