      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      6 Dec 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Bengaluru
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Confluent (Bengaluru) in Nov 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by one of the HRs on LinkedIn where he told me about the company and the process for the interviews, I have had heard about about the company before and was interested in giving the interviews. There were in total 5 rounds, Coding Round, Scripting Round, Operational Round, Design Round and finally behavioural round. Every round was of 1 hour and all the rounds were taken on Zoom. The HR was very helpful on scheduling/rescheduling interviews as I was at vacation after I was done with my first interview. Overall it was a great experience, interviewers were quite knowledgeable and experienced as they went in depth as one could get. First round was coding round taken on CoderPad where I was given to parse 2 different CSVs and merge them on certain rules and filter out certain data on certain rules, calculate a certain mathematical entity and finally sort them in decreasing order and print the corresponding metadata of the processed order. Interviewer was quite helpful in giving clues and correcting mistakes. Second round was Scripting round where basic and in depth question related to Linux were asked, along with that docker in depth questions, its working and orchestration, clustering and scheduling capabilities. Third round started with a very a basic system layout and was asked to expand the system along with the new resources addition and changing user requirements. Fourth round was the design round where I was given a design question prior to 3 days of interview and had to prepare a report for it(Have to describe everything from scratch, services dependancy, data modelling, cloud architecture etc.), again the interviewer went in depth as much as one could and was quite good. Overall the company is run and managed by some really good guys and are very systematic, smart and are very professional, I think I have had best interview experience with this company.

      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      11 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Confluent (London, England) in Nov 2018

      Interview

Started the process thru an external recruiter. The original job description mentioned that it was a remote position and I explicitly mentioned to the recruiter that I was not planning to move to London. First step was an interview with who would be the engineer running the new SRE team that is being created in Europe. Informal talk, some small technical questions, background talk and some explanations about the new team that the company wanted to create remote across Europe (again, explicitly mention that I was supposed to work remotely). Next step was a technical interview with an Engineer from USA. We used a shared code editor and went over two exercises. The interviewer was really kind and gave a hand to calm me down as I usually get nervous in this kind of "real time" coding exercises. Finally I was told that next day I was supposed to get a 2 hours videoconference interview and then a visit to their office onsite for the final technical interview. Here is when things started going wrong. I didn't get any interview appointment and after checking with the recruiter that introduced me to confluent, he told me that everything would be delayed due to Thanksgiving week. I waited a week and they were back again on a Friday stating that I would have an interview the week after in their office and asked me to prepare an architectural design of a SaaS service like their Kafka as a Service product because I would discuss it for a couple of hours while I was in London office. There was no mention on plane tickets so I asked whether I should get them myself. The answer I got was a question from the recruiter whether I would consider moving permanently to London... I said no because that's not what I was looking for. I never hear back from them, except for and ack I got from the recruiter when I told him I may get another offer soon from another company so I would need to see some progress from Confluent or I would not be interested. No rejection email at all, just silence as an answer....
