I applied through university. I interviewed at Cooley (San Diego, CA) in Aug 2016
Interview
OCI was a breeze. You need to know about the firm and depending on what office you want to work for, what practices they focus on. My knowledge of the history and accolades of the firm was a plus as I received a call back interview after being a lottery selection. The call back interview was very fun. Again, they are looking for enthusiasm and knowledge of the firm. I was diligent in studying each partners forte as well as their accomplishments. Go ahead and take a look at Cooley Go, their website for start ups. Digest some of the relevant info and be ready to use it in the interview. I got some behavioral questions throughout the six, thirty minute interviews. The main questions was describe a time where you were working in a group and had to over come a conflict. After the interviews they took me to lunch and I had a great talk with two associates.
There were two rounds. The first was a screener and the second was four or five back to back interviews with associates and partners. Everyone was very nice and the questions were nothing unexpected.
The screening process is simple and standard.
The interviewer asked questions like:
Why did you decide to come to law school
Why should Cooley hire you
Be prepared to share more because the interviewer would like you to expand some of your answers
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why did you decide to come to law school
Why should Cooley hire you
Submit application, then interviewed by a senior associate. Interviewed for the IP summer associate position. Did get the offer. The entire process is smooth, just my background does not fit.
