Despite having qualifications that clearly exceeded the job requirements, I was unable to proceed beyond the initial HR phone screen. Upon consideration, I was suspicious about my chances of proceeding because the interviewer made it a point from the onset of the interview to inform, that other than my qualifications, the candidate had to be the 'correct fit' for the job. I realize there is nothing inherently wrong with such a statement, but I could not help from being suspicious that I was being judged unfavorably due to my age, as I am in the later stages of my career. Nonetheless, I was very disappointed because I felt I was an ideal match for the position and should have at the very least, had an opportunity to interview with the hiring manager. Had I been able to interview with the hiring manager, I believe that I would have had a very good chance of receiving an offer.
