Senior Vice President of Technical Product Management Interview

      2 Oct 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Crossover for Work in Sept 2018

      Interview

TL;dr: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS CRAP - I BELIEVE THEY ARE JUST USING US TO MAKE THEIR TESTS BETTER! I was approached on Linkedin by a recruiter who described more or less my dream role: Tons of money ($400k a year), Lots of technologies, Interesting products, All remote... She sent me a link to a "Hiring Tournament" that takes place on the weekend. I was totally intrigued and of course I joined quickly. Then 3 or 4 emails, one per day, reminding me about the tournament + a phone call from a 2nd recruiter to say I was shortlisted as top candidate and reminding me again about the tournament (how could I forget, it's my dream job, right?) Ok, excited that Saturday came, I joined the webinar that started the tests. The webinar was informative and explained the various roles (it was for multiple different roles) and how working at Crossover looks like. The tests were pretty easy (basic questions) and weren't even time limited (except the external IQ test). But they were VERY time consuming. It took me around 5-6 hours net to finish everything and I'm a quick guy... 1) 15 or so Multi-choice questions (pretty basic) 2) Audio recording of yourself explaining your 3 primary skills 3) Write an "Important Technical Decision" (they call it an ITD) about whatever you want (they explain what they expect more or less) + video record yourself talking about the ITD. 4) Rate 5 different specs and explain why you rated them like that. 5) Review another spec and email the dude who wrote the spec and give him: a) A general feedback about writing specs. b) Fixes needed by tomorrow EOD c) Fixes needed by EOW. 6) Pick an industry you know best and create a presentation with 4-6 slides explaining how tech trends would affect this industry + recommendations for CIOs/CTOs. 7) 15 minute - 50 questions IQ test. Ok, so I did everything (spread it on 2 days), uploaded the files on Google Drive as requested and submitted. --------- Low and behold, NO ONE EVEN ACCESSED the files on drive!!! But, it didn't prevent Crossover from sending me an email saying that unfortunately they chose not to proceed with my application, it was very competitive bla bla. I was shocked to see that after so many hours in the process, that's all I got (I didn't yet check if my files were even accessed)... So I've sent the recruiter an email saying it's unprofessional to send me a general email after such a time consuming process and I expect a feedback. She gave me an email address to request it from and I did. This is what I got: "The primary reason why your application got rejected was that you failed the Subject Matter Test." So I replied back asking if that is it? And that I expect a more elaborate feedback, only to receive this reply: "Unfortunately we are not able to provide a detailed feedback with respect to the tests." So the summary is what I replied back to them and I beg you guys to believe the reviews here and even on Quora... Maybe they do once in a while run a legitimate event, but I believe most of the times they just plain use us to improve their process (not that it helps, as it seems): "Yes, It feels just about right, since my test files on Google drive weren't even accessed so how would I get any feedback...? I didn't believe the online feedbacks on Glassdoor and Quora and gave it a try. I was dead wrong and going to be sure to add my 2 cents on both sites so people won't waste time on Crossover tests."
