The interview was not bad but when it came down to the dollars they got really creative and asked how much I would need as a salary if they were to give me a $3,000 per month allowance that would be tax free?
I would beware of this company.

However, allowances are not "illegal" as stated. They are simply reported differently to the IRS in an effort to create a package that fits the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to employee compensation.
