Associate Manager - Event Marketing Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Datadog (New York, NY) in Apr 2019

      Interview

Shady hiring practices for a company that claims to value inclusion, openness, and equal opportunity. I was contacted by their in-house recruiter via email and asked to "put some time on my calendar" via Calendly. I am very familiar with this software and in every previous instance I would choose multiple times and the recruiter would select the one that best fits his/her schedule. But, in this case I was only able to choose one time slot. I thought this was odd and perhaps a glitch, so I chose two time slots and emailed the recruiter to let her know what I had done. She writes back in a snippy tone saying, "not sure what the issue is. I was asking that you select one time slot only." WTF? During the video interview, the first question asked was "What have you been doing since your last job?" I explained to her I got laid off and have been actively job hunting while also raising my daughter and freelancing. In the middle of the interview, she mentioned this role requires up to 40% of international travel, which for me is exciting and not a problem. At the end of the interview, I asked "Is there anything about my background that you feel would keep me from moving forward in the interview process?" She immediately brought up the gap, then added she'll be sure to let the hiring manager know I was laid off, took time off to raise my daughter, and freelancing. This was on Friday and on Monday I received a rejection email stating they've passed on my candidacy. I have a stellar background in events, marketing, and tech. In fact, I ticked off every requirement in their job description, so I should have been given a chance to move forward and demonstrate my capabilities. Her concerns and line of questioning definitely showed discrimination/bias against mothers and those who took time off to raise a family.
