      Machine Operator Interview

      26 May 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Kent, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Davis Wire (Kent, WA) in May 2025

      Interview

One week ago, I experienced what I strongly believe was a sham interview at Davis Wire Corp. I arrived at the company's hiring event in Kent, WA (found and booked my place at the event via Indeed several days prior), signed in, and filled out their application while they located my profile in their system. It seemed everything was in order for a normal meeting or even a facility tour to take place (I saw other candidates who signed in the same way were being given tours rather than interviews). I noticed a couple of their employees taking an unusually long look at my Indeed resume on one of their computers while I completed the application, but I mostly ignored this. I then interviewed with two representatives. After a couple of introductory questions about my personal life, the two spent the entirety of the meeting skewering my resume and solely looking for reasons to not move forward with me based on my work history. For context, I've worked with 5 companies since moving to Washington in 2022 because I have, up until now, intentionally been exploring career paths lately via the jobs I've chosen. I wouldn't otherwise have any practical means of doing that learning, given the cost of schooling as an alternative. If Davis Wire didn't like how my recent employment history presented for their hiring needs (for a Machine Operator job where virtually no experience is required and for which on-the-job training is afforded, per the job posting), then I don't see why I was even on the list of invited parties accepted to interview. But they did decide to interview. And they conducted that meeting abhorrently. One of them, in particular, did not hear much of anything I actually said, it seemed. She asked the same question about my personal life twice after I clearly answered the first time. And after I answered their clearly pointed questions on why I left every recent employer (they took no interest in the much longer roles I was in before WA), and after she got done with her notes, she went on a laughably contrived tirade. She claimed that I told them I was looking for the company to train me in welding - something they were both adamant the company does not do - when this was NOT what I said or implied. What I told them was that I knew they employed welders, I had an interest in going to welding school, and I applied for their Machine Operator role because I wanted to learn operations there, later attend night classes concurrently, and try to move into a Welder role with the company once I was certified. That's the career pathway I had in mind, and I wanted to know if it'd be viable for them. But they completely heard what they wanted to hear and misrepresented my own words. Worse, she levied needless insults and attacks on my intestinal fortitude as a worker, fabricating false takeaways about me in why I left recent employers even though I told them my reasons. I never had a chance to answer her disparaging claims. The meeting was just over after that. They never once asked how I thought the jobs I had worked in the past and the skills I acquired could translate. They instead fixated on roles I held in the previous 2.5 years alone, one by one focusing very specifically on why my leaving those roles was even more reason why they couldn't hire me. They very strongly seemed to have made their decision before I even walked into the room. This was an intentional, pre-planned takedown and a full-on falsity start to finish. This was not a real interview. I do not know why any company would conduct itself this way. I have never experienced a meeting like this before. And I am not writing this simply to vent about not getting a job I wanted. This is more than that. Folks should know what kind of entity they're doing business with should they apply to work for Davis Wire Corp, and that they very well may be walking into a complete mock-up masked as an interview.

      Question 1

Why did you leave your last employer? (It was all they wanted to know regarding every recent employer)
