Panel interview in Target Language, reference check, OPI testing, background investigation (whole process can take at minimum 6 months or so). Generally not difficult, especially because if there is a need for the language.

There were 5 questions, 5 mins for each. In total it lasted about half an hour. Among the questions, 3 were English ones and two were Chinese ones. The last question was about how you would solve a conflict between you and your supervisor.

A long process that begins with a panel interview in Target Language (which was unexpected) followed by language proficiency tests, and a background investigation for fitness in federal service. could take anywhere from 6 months to a year or more. If you are a US citizen and have all your documents and degrees ready, with little foreign or overseas connections, should not take as long.
