      Social Media Manager Interview

      19 Feb 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manchester City Centre, England
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at DeliveryApp (Manchester City Centre, England) in Feb 2023

      Interview

Red flags a-plenty with these guys. The hiring manager verged on the desperate at points. I was only five minutes into a call with them and I'd barely scratched the surface of my experience and I was cut off with "I've heard enough, I want to meet ya." That's lovely to hear but really peculiar considering I'd hardly touched on my skills or experience. Either way, I went along and prepared for the in-person presentation which I felt went really well. They were really pleased with it too but there was always this sense of urgency to get someone in role as soon as humanly possible. When I asked about my would-be predecessor, I was met with a cagey, vague response that left me none the wiser. I actually approached the person on LinkedIn asking what it was like as a place to work and received a message saying "It’s no longer the place I wish to be, but I’m sure others may do well in that environment…" This was someone who had only been in the role six months. Also, 'that environment'; that's hardly encouraging and going off the types of people I'd encountered during my two hours in their office, I can tell what she was getting at. Within an hour of leaving their office, they'd offered me the job; again, very forward. I didn't accept the role as they insisted on being in the office four days a week with only one day wfh. I said I'd accept on the condition of three office days but there was no budging and they withdrew the offer after a few days of back and forth. Crazy that they'd rather see a suitable candidate walk than compromise a smidge on office days. The role was re-advertised for a few months before vanishing from their jobs page without a hire. A sad end to a silly story.
