I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Deutscher Fußball-Bund (Frankfurt am Main) in Nov 2024
Interview
I applied online in September, was contacted to do a take-home-test in November and didn't hear back until January, when they sent out the rejection letter. Contact was with HR only through e-mail. I was allowed to choose from three dates to do the take-home-test. All dates spanned a weekend from Friday to Sunday. No prior information what the test would entail or how time consuming the test would be - I was only told it would be some data analysis task. The test consisted of two tasks - the first one was easy for me to solve. The second one was way more time consuming and took me all weekend - it was a little more open ended and you had to make up your mind what you would want to show as analysis. You were given a data set from real soccer matches and were asked to come up with a defensive strategy. The data structure was a bit complicated for me to sort through. I had clear on paper what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it, but getting the code to work took me a bit longer than expected and I wasn't able to finish everything in time. For all I know you were allowed to use AI to write your code. It was definitely an interesting task and coming from a bioinformatics background completely new kind of data and ways to analyze it. I didn't really expect to get an offer.
It's a little bit sad that they didn't want to get to know the person and their potential but were only looking for people who will get the job done. This interview took a lot of my time and was pretty intense.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Develop a function to implement the ELO Rating System with arbitrary K and s. Apply the rating system to 1. Bundesliga 2015/2016 Season with starting values R0 = 100, s = 15 and K = 15. Develop an approach that finds the optimal values for s and K based on that season and display the final ranking table at the end of the season.
During the summer break you are asked to research how the team can improve its corner strategies (both offensively and
defensively). Use the whole data set of Free Statsbomb Data to help you find general offensive trends. Use the 360 data for the few matches where they are available, to see if you can find effective defensive set-ups. Summarize your recommendations to the Set-Piece coach.
This had 5 rounds of interview from start to end, written round , three tech rounds , 1 Mgr and last would be. Overall 5 rounds, not too difficult and crack able

Interview
