      Associate Veterinarian Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Dogs Inc

      Interview

The interview process at SE guide dogs was long and convoluted. I went through a series of three interviews with the head veterinarian (one by phone, one in person, and one working interview). The veterinarian and his staff seemed great to work with and I enjoyed my time with them. After that process was complete, I then interviewed with an administrator. This person informed me that within one month of starting the head veterinarian was stepping back and I would be the head veterinarian in charge. This was a bit of a shock as it would change the on-call hours I had previously anticipated. I was also finally informed that the salary would be 110K, which was lower than I had been led to believe. I was told that I needed a final interview with the CEO (might as well I had already spent a month interviewing). At the final interview, I spoke to the CEO and the same administrator. I was given the offer for 110K annual with 6 months of on call and soon to be head vet in charge at the campus. I attempted to counter offer for a higher salary given the higher responsibility, but was denied. I was told that this was the salary that was being offered and they would not consider a counter off, but would possibly consider a raise in 6 months (although they would not put that in writing). I declined the offer as I the last interview left a bad taste in my mouth as I did not feel respected at all. Overall, SE guide dogs seemed like a very interesting position and I have nothing but good things to say about the veterinary staff. What I will say is that all salary information is available for non-profits through their tax returns (I reviewed the past ten years’ worth prior to my last interview) and I felt the offer was way below what they had given to vets previously especially for the increased responsibility they were asking.
