      Transmission and Distribution team Interview

      16 May 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Richmond, VA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Dominion Energy (Richmond, VA) in Apr 2024

      Interview

If you're not inside baseball here, you may as well skip applying. I have interviewed with Dominion 4 times - bringing a utility service operations and technology background and despite this - I get passed over - and when looking up people on LinkedIn - it's clear they bring next to zero experience to the table but yet get the jobs despite answering phones as a front desk clerk, working reception at the YMCA, or working as a trainer at Ruby Tuesday - yes, really - just do a search on LinkedIn and you'll see. Each time had 2 or 3 rounds with an interview panel - which all went well, at least in my eyes, great back and forth and answered the questions relating to great experience, etc. etc. *THEN* - after this, get introduced to the "hiring manager" who was never present for any of these calls or in-person conversations and then spends 10 minutes with you asking you - not much - and asks you things that you - wont know - because you aren't currently working there - and makes it clear that he is a manager and a team leader and while he was able to rise through the ranks, when you get to the part about "being part of a long-term family," you shouldn't expect the same opportunities as him, more or less. Good times. Then like clockwork - 4 days later, form rejection by email. But gosh - look at that YMCA front desk clerk rising through the ranks.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Initial group/panel back and forth informal, then a formal typical STAR panel.

Hello there! Thank you for taking a few minutes to leave a review and I am sorry to see that it is a negative one. Our hiring process can be a lengthy one, but that is to ensure all candidates are qualfied and meet the criteria set by the position's responsibilities. We always strive to hire the best candidate possible for all of our roles and have an extensive auditing and review process to verify that is the case every time. Furthermore we hire for a wide variety of engineering roles and at varying levels, so it is possible the individuals you saw on LinkedIn were for our entry level opportunites. As for the interview itself, I do apologize there. It is never a positive expereince to have a hiring leader who is not engaged or out of the loop when hiring for their team. And especially to suggest that opportunities across the company are not for everyone. I have shared this feedback with the hiring team for our T&D roles just so that they are aware and can provide better guidance to leaders in the future. Appreciate your review and best of luck to you in your next role- wherever that may be!
