      Financial Advisor Interview

      16 Feb 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Edward Jones in Oct 2023

      Interview

I applied on 10/26 and received communication on 10/30 to schedule a phone screening interview. After this, I was invited to the next steps of the process which required another phone interview to schedule an in-person interview with an existing FA. The closest one that could interview me was 2 hours away so the call ended up being virtual. After my virtual interview with a FA, they decided to advance me to the next step which was the business planning activity (At this point it was around 11/14. After completing this step, being close to 3 weeks in, I was scheduled the week of Thanksgiving on 11/20 for their day in the life simulation step. This step lasted 3.5-4 hours long. After three weeks of waiting for any kind of correspondence, I assumed I wasn't getting the job. On 12/14, I receive a congratulatory email saying I made it to the last interview and needed to schedule it. I responded the same evening and didn't hear anything back. I followed up with the recruiter and nothing. After between 2-3 more weeks, I receive an email requesting me to schedule the final interview and I was congratulated again. I scheduled it for 1/11 and the person who was supposed to interview me wasn't available and the one that did interview me made it sound like this wasn't the last interview like I was told. During this interview, they asked me the same questions as the original interviews which confused me a bit. I was told I would receive correspondence on the following Monday regardless if I was getting an offer or not. Needless to say I still haven't heard anything back or a response to my follow ups. The whole process had a lack of communication and I felt it was a waste of my time. I find it to be extremely unprofessional for such a highly respected company. I don't mind an interview process with several steps; however, there needs to be communication and less periods of 2-3 weeks with no correspondence. Hopefully they improve this process for anyone that applies in the future.

      Interview

Interview process first consists of numerous dinner events, all very laid back where you get to learn more about the company and the advisors in the region, and they get to learn more about you. If you keep getting invited back to dinners, consider it progress in the interview process. Honestly, the best, most effective interview process.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Edward Jones (Vancouver, WA)

      Interview

it's a series of interviews with people in the office then a full-day of simulating the role of the advisor where you're receiving calls from clients and team mates as well as receiving emails. As a career-changer, this was the part of the interview phase where I realized Edward Jones wasn't the right start to my career as a financial advisor and ended up going somewhere that invested in my growth rather than a "sink or swim" type of place.
