I interviewed with 3 different people in HR. The first was over the phone, the second was in person, and the third was via Microsoft Teams. The phone interview was very awkward. The person I interviewed seem to not really care what I was saying and after every question I answered there were very pregnant pauses. After my interviews, they asked me for references and I gave them multiple and they weren't hearing back. The person I interacted with the most was clearly frustrated with me about it. Eventually they heard back from a reference who gave them an unfavorable opinion of me and they chose not to hire me, which I was told over a very off-putting phone call where they stated exactly why I wasn’t hired in a pretty condescending way. This should not be told to a potential hire unless they ask for feedback, and it was a pretty uncomfortable phone call. I was then sent a follow up email, again telling me I was not hired, which seemed odd because I had already been told via the phone that I did not get the job. The email was much more professional and I’m sure was protocol- but I only need to be told once I didn’t get a job.
