A recruiter found my resume online and called me to see if I was interested in an Account Manager position. A skype interview was arranged, since the owner was not able to come in for an interview again, as she lived out of state and was just here interview last week (with no luck).
The 2 recruiter ladies that I spoke with were grooming me on what the owner likes and doesn't like so that the interview would go well. I thought it was more on the patronizing side than it was professional. They were noting things like, "She likes good eye contact, so make sure you look at her." Really as if I don't know how to do an interview?
During the skype interview, the owner was very 'matter-of- the-fact' and not very friendly. I asked a few questions about the company and colleagues since this was going to be a field job, and I didn't get the feeling that there was a supportive network. Additionally I was asked about my previous salary and when I strategically deflected that if we find that the position is a fit then I'm sure we can come to a solution on the compensation rate. The owner was rude and said something like, "No I need to know what you made before." I don't take kindly to employers who are rude in an interview and who is trying to sum up my new salary with my old salary. Regardless the salary she offered was a low ball offer.
The hours of the job was 6am-3pm, (most likely to be working past 3pm daily- as business operations don't end at 3pm) and traveling 4 days/wk from Marin to Palo Alto. The salary offered of $40k/year did not match the responsibilities requested. I wasn't interested in the job after that.
