I interviewed at Energy Action (Sydney)

      Interview

I was approached by an external recruiter for a Sales Manager role at Energy Action and had the chance to go through the full interview process. What stood out to me from the beginning was the timing. The business had recently gone through a restructure and was looking for someone to be part of that fresh start and help shape what the next version of the sales team looks like. The process itself was straightforward. I first spoke with the recruiter, then had a deeper conversation with the Head of Sales, followed by a final discussion with the CEO. Each stage built on the last and gave me a clearer picture of both the role and the direction of the business. A big part of the conversations focused on my experience leading outbound teams and building structure across BDRs and BDMs. I have always enjoyed working in environments where there is an opportunity to simplify processes, create better visibility across the funnel, and help teams operate more consistently. It was also interesting to talk through areas where the business is looking to grow, particularly around improving conversion visibility and continuing to build out their tech stack. It is clear there is a strong focus on evolving how the team operates and setting a solid foundation for future growth. On a personal level, the process made me reflect on my own approach to leadership. I have always aimed to be fair across the team, but I am increasingly seeing the importance of being more performance focused, with clear expectations and accountability to help individuals and the team succeed. Overall, it was a really positive experience and a great reminder of how much impact strong structure, clarity, and leadership can have on a sales team.
