      Senior Product Marketing Manager Interview

      13 Nov 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Redlands, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Esri (Redlands, CA) in Nov 2021

      Interview

The interview process was very intensive. I had to use 3 days of vacation time to participate because the interview requires you to be on video conference. I currently work in an office, not remote. The first day was a 30 minute phone call with HR to prepare for the interview. The second day was from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with multiple breaks. The day was exhausting - you met with several individuals ranging from 30 mins to 1.5 hrs each. Some of the team members didn't even know they were interviewing and almost each one showed up 1-3 minutes late. It was difficult to repeat yourself over and over again and also deal with the various personalities. Some made you feel uplifted, others brought your energy down. The third day was spent with the head of marketing and product management and then HR again to wrap it all up - a total of 1.5 hrs. I enjoyed my conversation with everyone, I felt like I answered everything the best I could, I showed that I had done research on the company ahead of time and I also asked them a lot of questions. Unfortunately, after all my personal time, attention, and stress I was told the feedback was mixed and I won't be offered the position. They felt like I didn't ask enough questions - which surprised me. I suppose I should ask everyone the exact same questions each time even if it was already answered. It's truly disheartening especially since so much time is spent on your end. I understand why they do their process the way they do, but I really wish it was a shorter interview session and having the opportunity to speak to the team in groups rather than one at a time. Also, be clear as to what position you applied for upfront. I kept getting mixed messages throughout the process because they had multiple positions open - they kept making it seem as if I could potentially be offered either the senior role or product management role. I purposely applied for the senior role. Additionally, I will say that while the company overall seems like an amazing place to be with great people, their salaries are more on the lower end of the market. They offer great benefits (paid insurance, opportunity to gain money from extra hours), but overall the base salary is much lower than I had expected. I wish I had asked the salary more upfront before spending so much time on the interview process when at the end of the day I didn't get the offer.
