An internal recruiter reached out to me via email to talk to me about the role and moved me to the next round. The initial interview with the hiring manager was really positive and was very conversational. He shared great information about the company and I could feel the passion that he had for the mission and his team. The next round was to do a live design challenge they sent me an hour before the call, but the interviewer asked me extensive questions about my time after being laid off last summer. It was an odd experience and I felt that he wanted to see if I was utilizing my time well or something. He was never able to fully articulate my answers well so it felt like I had to repeat a lot of the information I was saying. When I suggested design changes and gave him reasons why, he automatically shut them down and said that that would lead to a large drop off rate. Weird to be a bit close-minded like that, but sure... Typical fast-paced and agile startup environment that seems like they want someone to do a ton of implementations of brand new features for their product. Didn't think the company or role was a good fit for me.
