I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ExxonMobil (Fawley, Hampshire, South East England, England) in Oct 2017
Interview
ExxonMobil was fairly efficient with the interview process. The interview process is as follows:
1. Send in your CV and cover letter and fill in your personal details, submit your application.
2. Online assessment (numerical reasoning questions) and personality assessment.
3. Skype interview from an external talent agency. (I thought this was a scam at first, turned out it wasn't)
4. Face-to-face Interview at Fawley Refinery with 2 full-time engineers.
5. Offer.
The process was efficient and the interviewers at the refinery were especially nice and friendly. It did not feel like an interview at all, more like a conversation. The face-to-face interview lasted around 50 mins, and included roughly 5 mins of technical questions (simple chemical engineering questions).
You have to know the safety features in a refinery, some basic fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Basically, know the basic principles of chemical engineering and you should be able to think it through. The questions are qualitative.
