      Android Imaging Engineer Interview

      11 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Milpitas, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Eyefluence (Milpitas, CA) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Impressive, and thoughtfully organized interview day. I did not get a job offer, but this company appears to have their priorities right. I had an initial phone screen followed by an online problem-solving session. After that I came in for a full-day of interview(packed with activity). First I signed a stringent NDA, and after that the CEO gave a demonstration of the wearable software product. Right after that the entire interview team + remote stake-holders on video listened to me giving a presentation of my credentials, thoughts, etc. They had given me advance notice about this informal self-introduction, and the idea was to publicly handle difficult questions(like why am I seeking a job? my thoughts about startups, layoffs, etc - respectful, and meant to save time). Between the course of the interviews(all of them were of a technical/white-board nature), I was given timeouts which were also used to provide further insight through demos. Every day they sit down to lunch together where the execs outline the current status(possibly on a daily basis). Despite my presence I sensed no withholding of info. This was especially impressive to me: if they treat a candidate with this amount of trust, I would be quite comfortable with being an employee there. The engineer who did the pre-screening was also one of the interviewers and it was easy to build a good rapport with them. The hiring manager was super good. Although he's highly technical, he would come by between each session and check on me. During his interview session, I could see his level of technical depth. Midway through the day, I sensed that I hadn't done well in one of the problems. Since they are awfully busy(and I already had an alternate job offer), I carefully suggested(to the hiring manager) that I would not be insulted :) if he walked me out. That didn't happen, and in fact my interview ran slightly over. I felt that the organization values people, employees as well as potential employees. I did not receive a formal notification about the job, but it was obvious that they would have come around super-quick if they wanted to hire me. Overall, I give them a two hearty thumbs-up! Great product, exec team, and high standards.
